Join us and savor gazpacho, tapas and flamenco; all of which have their roots and origins set deep in the culture of Andalusia. Casa el Morisco, our retreat center set in the foothills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, is located on the south coast of Spain and offers an authentic experience of these delights.
Away from the mass tourism that now dominates the region, we will retreat to a haven of tranquility created by long-time resident and German-born owner, Wilfried, and his staff. The oasis created includes a unique multi-sense garden that facilitates a self-guided interactive sensual relationship with the sub-tropical environment. Through it one discovers a deeper sense of just being present for the moment as it unfolds.

Adjacent is an India garden and pond for relaxing, reflecting, dreaming and meditating. In fact, the whole property was designed to accommodate and facilitate a true retreat experience. Benches, hammocks, alcoves, walkways, balconies, paths, vistas, secluded nooks and an earthed cave all are available to capture just the right mood.

Accommodations are bright, earthy, colorful and quiet. All double rooms have ensuite baths with upgrades to private rooms available. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable -- a retreat in themselves.

Food is vegetarian using locally grown ingredients and prepared by bright-eyed Spanish women who sing while they cook the evening meal. Our happy cooks make healthy, delicious food to nurture our bodies.

The retreat center has three beautiful spaces for the practices of yoga. Bright and airy the rooms are set off away from the comings and goings of the center.

During our time there we will have an option to visit famous white villages nearby and stroll through a Spanish market.

Anadulsia is the home of Spain's most famous building, the Alhambra, which will be our major adventure away from the retreat center and into the very heart of Islamic settlement in the area. The Andalusian coast is steeped in history.

Phoenician and Greek trading was active in the 8th and 7th centuries BC. During Roman times, from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD roads, aqueducts, temples, theaters, amphitheaters, circuses, baths and the basis of a legal system were introduced. This gave way to the Moors who invaded from the north coast of Africa in 711 and who were the dominant force for more than 4 centuries. Finally the Christians regained control of the area in 1492 with the fall of Granada. Each culture has left its mark on the countryside and the scent of days gone by is evident in the architecture and culture of the region.

Andalusia is now a mecca for sun-worshipping northern Europeans. We have chosen this site for our yoga retreat because of its unique location with the exciting blend of cultures, the quality of the rooms and food, and the hospitality of the owners and staff.
