The Art of Class Design
A Professional-level Kripalu Yoga
Teacher Training

This week offers a rare opportunity to explore all of the elements that make a Kripalu Yoga class special. You'll have the chance to practice new teaching technology and exchange ideas with other yoga teachers in order to jump-start your teaching while studying at Kripalu Center, North America's largest yoga and health center.

A well-designed Kripalu Yoga class balances body, mind, and spirit-a balance that creates a healing and transformational experience for your students. In addition to the hatha yoga practices of asana and pranayama that purify the body, an exceptional class includes practices to develop wisdom, insight, and knowledge (jnana yoga) and the heart-opening experiences (bhakti yoga) for which Kripalu is known .

In this Kripalu Yoga teacher training we will investigate practical strategies and creative techniques for integrating all three elements into your yoga classes. Through lecture, demonstrations, group experience, and practice we'll explore:

* An expanded repertoire of beginner-level postures
* Easy ways to effectively sequence any set of postures
* A method for analyzing your class designs-building on their strengths and improving their weaknesses
* Simple ideas for introducing the philosophy of yoga into your classes
* Techniques for incorporating heart-opening practices and rituals
* Strategies for helping your students take their practice "off the mat" and into their lives
* New class plans that you can take home and teach immediately

In addition to the program content, all Kripalu guests can enjoy walking and hiking on the property, swimming in Lake Mahkeenac or soaking in the hot tubs. You also may choose to participate in Kripalu's noon-time DansKinetics, special workshops on pranayama, meditation or asanas, two daily yoga classes, as well as evening concerts and programs.

Eligible participants will earn 30 credit hours (10 methodology, 15 technique & 5 philosophy-ethics-lifestyle) toward Kripalu Professional Level Certification.

A MUST for all teachers. This program will take my teaching to a new level. I thank you and my students thank you! Sudhakar & Kathleen are a gift to all yoga teachers who want to learn and grow. The program was flawless in its conception, its organization and its presentation.
Karen, Syracuse, NY

Excellent! How can one improve upon perfection? Sudhakar & Kathleen gave all of themselves and transmitted their knowledge with precision and clarity. Thank you! Anne, Suffern, NY

The overall care, precision, organization, respect, knowledge and love transmitted to the students was powerful. Kathleen and Sudhakar create a safe and holy space in which one no longer feels vulnerable. They are both totally accessible, drawing people out to express opinions, ask any questions and [they were] unafraid -- in fact encouraging -- the group to see their flaws and connect with our oneness. This training will enable me to improve the quality, heart and soul of my yoga teaching. Mary, Walpole, MA

This class is going to take my teaching to a new level. It has given me the tools to design the class, sequence the postures, add in yoga teachings and include spiritual elements. Sudhakar & Kathleen are beautiful people. This is the best class I have taken at Kripalu -- and I just finished the 500 hr program. Duane, Houston, TX

I loved the program. [I have gained] confidence in my abilities as a teacher and resources to fill my creative well. I feel abundant in the knowledge and tools I gained. This program has changed my life in a significant way. I feel inspired in my own yoga practice and I am eager to pass this inspiration on to the students in my classes. Carrie, Hillsdale, NJ

[I gained] a wealth of experiential knowledge in the totality of yoga and the confidence to bring it to all my students. Thank you so much! Marcella, British Virgin Islands

Kathleen & Sudhakar complement each other; as teachers they are a great team. They speak with authority from their personal experiences and travels to India. They are also warm and love their students I've gained many valuable teaching tools. The heart-opening practices impacted me significantly. Sandy, Orono, ME

The opportunity to do mini practice teaches gave me a chance to make the head-intellectual part experiential. I am grateful for all the wonderful information. I have new tools to use in both my own yoga practice and my teaching. Sharen, Charlotte, MI

The content and presentation were so well planned and thorough. Excellent program! Sudhakar and Kathleen are fabulous presenters & teachers. The puja will be with me always. I woke up this morning thinking of ways to keep the feeling of my heart exploding all day long. How can I be in the world this way always? Joyce, Marco Island, FL

Excellent! I would definitely take another program offered by Sudhakar & Kathleen.
Michele, Lititz, NY

I feel so inspired & motivated. They were so well prepared and provided so much great information. Sudhakar is an excellent teacher & very easy to approach. Kathleen is an excellent teacher with a huge heart. Together, they have wonderful energy and play off each other well. I feel so inspired to go back and share with my students. I now have the tools to successfully plan & deliver an awesome class. I also feel more comfortable knowing where to find the right information and how to turn that into a yoga-talk. [I know] how to teach my students more about yoga, not just the asanas. Denise, Wilton, CT

This program was helpful in a tangible, asana way, but it also inspired my soul. The course embodied the full meaning of yoga. [The staff] were knowledgeable, open, approachable & compassionate. Nancy, Dover, NJ

[I've gained] confidence in giving a great class with lots of tools I can use right away.
Diipali, Mesa, AZ

The program was excellent! I can't say anything more! My heart is wrapped around Sudhakar & Kathleen. I want to take them home with me! I learned how to sequence a class safely and many other tools to pull the class together. Colleen, Rockaway, NJ

I never come to Kripalu with "expectations", but the questions I brought with me were all answered in a very deep way. I am newly inspired, renewed and am ever so grateful for the existence of the Kripalu Center. Carol, Bloomington, IN

Every single aspect of this program was both meaningful and powerful. Their approach to practice teaching experiences was particularly empowering -- their emphasis on the fact that we are all learners & that we are not expected to know how to do this, but only to try it out.

The best program I have had since YTT! [The program was] meticulously organized, carefully thought out, and offered structure to give students the tools to design a complete Kripalu yoga class. It will enable me to design a complete yoga class. Sue, Glen Cove, NY

The teachers were extremely well prepared. Their information was extremely relevant and will change my personal practice and my teaching forever. The class takes you to an entirely new level as a professional. The "technology" gives a safe framework to build beautiful, safe, spiritual classes. Mary Beth, South Bend, IN

I found out what Kripalu yoga really is. My yoga classes will never be the same again.
Nancy Perth, Ont.

This is an important follow-up for YTT and should be strongly recommended. It will definitely change my classes for the better - and it gives me a better feeling about myself as a teacher. Karin Emporia , KS

Both Kathleen and Sudhakar were great - very knowledgeable, incredibly well-versed in their subject. This class will change the way I approach teaching yoga. It will also influence my life, in that I feel a deeper integration in my being of the yogic practices. May Ellen, Southbury, CT

All the information about anatomy and all the content from the workshop was fabulous. Ken and Kathleen are wonderful teachers. I always try to be loving, kind, and compassionate, and this class gave me the breath and force to be more so. I learned so much inside and outside - in my head and in my body. Jeanne, Mansfield, PA

[I have gained] the technology to design a great, not just a good, class. Kathy, Cromwell, CT

The whole experience was meaningful and powerful. It was a fantastic week. I learned a lot in every area - personally, professionally, creatively and spiritually. Both Sudhakar and Kathleen together create a safe, inspirational learning environment. Their knowledge and obvious love of yoga in all its aspects radiates. I couldn't help but drink in what they have to offer.
Trish, Chester, England

I learned not to be afraid, to add all aspects of yoga and take everyone to their edge with love and compassion. Rita, Fairbanks, AK

I am more complete now, more authentic. I am more knowledgeable and will be able to deliver a better yoga class. Alexandra, Puerto Rico

I'm speechless at you EXCELLENCE - so it is difficult to comment. The course was more dynamic, informative and transformative than I could have imagined. Your generosity in sharing your discoveries and hours of hard, focussed work is overwhelming. I can't believe the handouts! How good of you to let me take YOUR WORK home with me. You did an excellent job throughout making certain that what was discussed was also experienced and internalized. You taught the material. Your warmth, confidence and competence were inspiring.

An addendum upon return: My Monday evening class really enjoyed "Avatars of Vishnu" [a class designed during the week-long program]. They noticed and appreciated the evolution in my class design. THANK YOU! THANK YOU for your generosity in sharing the fruits of many years of research and application. I look forward to creating boundless works of Art for future classes! Theresa, Indiana, PA

Fantastically well-organized and presented. The thoughtfulness, care and deep knowledge of the presenters was constantly evident. I appreciated their preparation and total presence. [The sequencing section was] so clear and immensely helpful. Thanks so much for everything. Faith, Long Beach, CA

Full of lots of information - very well organized. It ran very smoothly - plus I had fun! You both teach from the heart. Thank you! It went by too quickly. Joanne, Greenwich, CT

You handled a diverse group with expertise! Good content, superbly organized and planned for every detail. Presentation was amazing in the coordination of the two of you in synchronicity. You together were models of leadership and stewardship. You are emissaries of light to all of us from the rich tradition of Kripalu. I particularly loved your attention to music, which was absolutely PERFECT! Sharon, Toronto

Brilliant class design of the "Art of Class Design". There was a wonderful balance between didactic and experiential learning. No doubt you taught us through every moment of the experience by modeling "how its done" (Sequence of the am yoga, music, support, relationship building, safety). I look forward to returning home to begin to process everything. This class provided me with the experience in order to feel more confident to move forward in my yoga teaching. Terry, Columbia, MO

It was very detailed and thought-out. Your enthusiasm shined through every day. I would love to join you in future programs. Thank you again. Itza, Ottawa

I loved the choreography part especially. It moves yoga from physical calisthenics to a serene, contained dance-like-happening made gorgeous by the breathing and body-soul awareness. I loved your "now" presences - unbelievable how you focus on and relish each person. Thanks. MaryAnn, Manchester, MA

I think you did an excellent job coordinating the various aspects of class design. The progression was very logical and well-organized. It flowed smoothly with a natural rhythm that demonstrates the growth process in yoga. You were warm, caring and true teachers lighting the way so each of us could experience our truth with guidance in lovingkindness. Thanks you for this opportunity. With heartfelt appreciation!
