NCI-designated cancer center

In October 1991, the NCI established the 5 A Day program in partnership with Produce for Better Health. The aim of the program was to get Americans to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. In 1992, Dr. Gallo, who had studied the disease, discovered the first human RNA virus, the human immunodeficiency virus. His work has since been credited with the development of the HIV vaccine. The NCI recently signed a collaboration agreement with the National Naval Medical Center.

Treatment options
The Maggie Daley Center for Women’s Cancer Care at Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago is home to more than 100 clinical trials, innovative therapies and leading-edge medicine. With 11 private chemotherapy rooms and a group chemotherapy room, this hospital provides the latest treatments for women suffering from cancer. This facility also offers cancer genetics, early detection, and prevention education. Patients may choose from an extensive menu of treatment options, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
In addition to breast and ovarian cancers, the hospital provides treatment for a wide variety of other types of cancer. Women may be diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer or a rare genital disorder. Treatment options for breast cancer, cervical cancer, uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts may include chemotherapy, radiation, or both.
